Alaskan Bears – a must see for every visitor!
The place ALASKA known for its huge biggest forests and wild habitat is very well known for its bears commonly named as Grizzly Bears.
There are mainly 3 types of grizzly bears i.e., Polar, Black & Brown bears. These bears are mainly found in much of the southern Arctic Circle.
Well, we all know Bears are endangered species, around 98 percent of bears in U.S., are in Alaska, the most enchanting fun-filled location. People around the world go for Alaska to watch bears in its natural form, there are lots of Safaris available depending on your stay there. Brooks Falls is one of the famous places where bear pictures are taken.
Brown Bear
The place Kodiak Island is known for having the biggest brown bears. If you are on a shorter or longer tour, bear watching is a must see. Denali National Park is one the best known places for watching Bears in its natural habitat. The weight of one brown bear is equivalent to 1500-1700 lbs., its almost like 9-10 feet tall. Brown bear mainly consume food like berries, sedges, grasses, cow parsnips etc.
Polar Bear
Polar Bear is another favorite with the people visiting Arctic Ocean, they are also found at Bering Strait too. They are used to staying on a packed ice and are known to live their own way by hunting food for themselves; they mostly live on ringed seals and walruses. They are also found wandering across Barrow. The main place to watch polar bears is at Alaska Zoo situated at Anchorage. They are known to weigh around 600-1300 pounds.
Black bear
Black Bears are found almost any where around Alaska. These bears are known for visiting nearby forests and marsh lands frequently. If you are hunting to watch them in wild somewhere, don’t miss out to watch them in the birch and spruce forests. They mostly live on grasses, berries, roots and minor animals. They are widely available for a watch at Anan Creek.
They are comparatively smaller in size as compared to polar or brown bears. Although, the common notion goes that Black bear means black in color, the case is different here. Black bears are not always black in color; they can be a glacier bears somewhat bluish in color, white or even cinnamon colored.
Although Bear hunting is very popular in Alaskan regions, every action has its pros and cons, since bear population is one of the most endangered species. This sport could be enjoyed with proper implementation of resources and research to increase their diminishing population. There are specific times when people go hunting for bears i.e., during springs and winter fall.
Encountering Bears.
The visitors visiting these natural hubs may very well know, how to tackle, wherever people go on a visit, there are always some precautionary measures to be taken care of.
People are advised to be extra careful as bears are active day in and day out. Be very careful once you are in a natural habitat; avoid sounds of whistling as this may make them feel of some prey or a hunter.
If every you come across, act normal; don’t try to run helter-skelter, it may encourage them to follow you. Try clapping your hands make them aware that you are a human being.
